Rice Krispie Treats Decorating Ideas

Decorated rice krispie treats are such a fun and easy way to celebrate holidays. Here are three fun ideas to decorate treats for Christmas that are perfect for classroom parties and more.
During the holidays it is really handy to have some quick, easy, no-bake treats in your repertoire. These fun decorated rice krispie treats are a perfect fun way to celebrate winter and Christmas without a ton of effort. Plus they are super delicious, cute and popular with everyone who eats them.
I have been on a rice krispie treat decorating kick lately. After making white chocolate mummies and multi-eyed monster rice krispie treats were perfect for Halloween.
Then there were the fun chocolate dipped turkey rice krispie treats for Thanksgiving. The candy coated sunflower seeds were both pretty and tasty.
All of them were super popular. There is just something about the simplicity of marshmallows and crispy rice cereal that bring out the child in you.
So when Little Dude's teacher asked me to make treats for his class's Christmas party my mind immediately went to rice krispie treats. That's actually not 100% true.
I actually thought of cupcakes first. But all of the baking and mess of the kids eating them quickly changed my mind.
The rice krispie treats are so much quicker to make and less messy to eat. Besides I had been thinking a Rudolph version would be fun.
The peanut butter and chocolate crispy bars were a perfect base for the reindeer. A dip in milk chocolate gave them a great base for holding the decorations.
I used mini pretzel twists for the antlers and small candy eyeball sprinkles too. I ended up using sour cherry candies for the nose, but red gumdrops or even red M & M's would be great as well.
How to make Rudolph the red nose reindeer rice krispie treats:
- Make a batch of chocolate peanut butter bars and allow to set.
- Cut into small squares or rectangles. (Roughly 2″x2″ is a good size.)
- Gather up pretzel twists, eyeball candies and red candy noses so you are ready.
- Gently melt compound milk chocolate in a double boiler or microwave safe bowl. Be sure to not scorch the chocolate.
- Dip the top of a rice krispie bar in the melted chocolate. Place chocolate side up on a piece of wax paper.
- Quickly decorate with 2 mini pretzel twist antlers, 2 eyeballs and a red candy nose.
- Repeat until you have made enough treats. Allow to set completely then store in an airtight container.
I figured some kiddos might prefer traditional vanilla treats instead of the chocolate peanut butter version. I am a big fan of both, plus a huge fan of options, so I whipped up a batch of those as well.
For the Halloween treats I made really thick treats. For these I made them thinner and smaller so they would be easier to eat.
You can find the recipe for the bars below. I made two batches as you will soon see.
How to make snowman rice krispie treats:
- Make a batch of rice krispie bars (recipe below) and allow to set.
- Cut into small squares or rectangles. (Roughly 2″x2″ is a good size.)
- Gather up regular chocolate chips, mini chocolate chips and candy corn.
- Gently melt white chocolate in a double boiler or microwave safe bowl. Be sure to not scorch the chocolate.
- Dip the top of a rice krispie bar in the melted chocolate. Place chocolate side up on a piece of wax paper.
- Quickly decorate with 2 chocolate chip eyes, 4 mini chocolate chips and a candy corn nose.
- Repeat until you have made enough treats. Allow to set completely then store in an airtight container.
The snowmen treats were the first treats to disappear during the party, so they were a hit with the kids. I saw some parents reaching for them as well.
The first graders had a Grinch day the day before the party. So I thought it would be fun to make some Grinch treats as well.
How to make Grinch rice krispie treats:
- Make a batch of rice krispie bars (recipe below), but stir about a teaspoon of green food coloring gel into the melted marshmallow before you add the cereal. Allow to set.
- Cut into small squares or rectangles. (Roughly 2″x2″ is a good size.)
- Use a small dab of melted white chocolate or frosting to stick a candy heart to the treats.
- Allow to set then store in an airtight container.
I learned from my experience with the corn flake wreaths to add a bit more coloring than I thought. The cereal will dilute the color just a bit, so make the color a shade or two darker than desired.
I used a tiny bit of melted white chocolate to glue large heart shaped sprinkles to the treats. I am sure you could use a dot of frosting as well.
It was fun to show up with the whole collection of Christmassy treats. The mix of flavors and decorations was a hit.
They are extra wonderful because they don't require an oven or refrigeration. Plus you can make them a day or two ahead with no issues.
This makes them perfect for class treats or holiday carry-ins. They are also a fun way to dress up treat trays for friends and neighbors.
Do you have a favorite way to dress up treats? I'd love to hear all about them or show me pictures on social media.
